Default What color is my car?

And don't say "blue"
Code is 658-9-3. Only searches for that code pull up my posts here in befuddlement.

It is blue. There, I said it. But it's got a noticeable purple look depending on the light. Color varies from a almost-gray navy blue to very dark blue to purple. No variation noted from panel to panel.

Car appears to have been repainted in the past, as the wheels and license plate bolts (!) are color matched. A sort of vague dullness to the jambs where they turn the corner to the exterior as well... but the color of the jamb seems identical to the exterior, so I don't know for sure, haven't found a hint of overspray anywhere, and I have a pretty good eye for that stuff.

1980. Not only can I not find the code, I can't find anything close. Since the jambs at least appear to be original, and identical to the exterior, I'm puzzled. If it was repainted, they did a helluva a job and matched a complex color.

Funny thing is, it's a very very similar color to our 1996 Miata M-edition... loved that car, but didn't really need the convertible top, and wanted seating for four, and maybe a little more power and cachet, and hey! Whattaya know, that's what I've got now!!

I should mention, since computer pictures rarely ring true, that the images above really do represent what I see with ye olde naked eye. Kind of a translucent pearl purple over blue with silver and blue metallic. It's gorgeous upon inspection, though tends to strike me as a fairly pedestrian 80's navy blue at first glance.

Could be a custom color. I can't find a darn thing in any of my books, any of the sites I've checked and any of the sources I've gone through.

Do you have the paperwork that showed the options that may say what it was?

It's not Baltic Blue. Maybe Prussian Blue?

The closeups looks a lot like Marine Blue, which has a purple-ish cast under certain light but that color supposedly wasn't available until mid-1987.

I did some research as well and was unable to match your color code with a name. Could be a 'paint to sample' color.

Hard to tell in the lighting in those pictures but it looks like Prussian blue metallic or venetian blue.

It appears that it's a "paint to sample" color code. In the Redbook all color codes are three digit numbers. When you google "Paint to Sample Porsche" you get multiple posts in Pelican with Paint to sample posts with three number codes.
