Default A question for those who track their car..

Coupe owners how tight of fit is it for you with a helmet on? I have a 1988 sunroof coupe. The car still has stock electric seats. I am average size at 5'10". Even with the seats lowered down, with a helmet on there is no more than about a 1/2" above my head probably less. Is it the same for others? Is this considered safe?

regards,

Mike

Same thing with my 89 sunroof coupe ... I added Sparco seats and a roll bar for the track and installed the seats with some sliders.
I guess if needed i could mount them directly to the floor supports and gain a 1/2 inch but there is still some clearance for me.

Cheers !

If you have clearance, you should be fine.

If you need more clearance, here's a modification I made to my non-electric seats that gave me an additional inch. I don't know if it can be done to electric versions, but I suspect it can. Basically it involves changing the shape of the longitudinal S-shaped springs under the seat to lower the "rear" portion.

I used it this way for four years before installing Sparcos on custom mounts 1/2" off the floor, along with a roll bar and harnesses. I was not getting enough support in the stock seats to prevent lateral movement.
