Default SQW- Please help me identify and troubleshoot

Below are two pictures of something I am confused by in my engine bay. It is mounted on the left side and as you see, it has a rather bright warning label that seems to relate to electricity. Out of the top center of it exits a cable that as you see in picture 2 is sitting loose in my engine bay.

What is this thing? Where is it supposed to connect? What is the danger of it not being connected?

Ok- having scoured the online parts diagrams, I think this is the cruise control system- possibly the cruise control servo?

That is your CC. Vacuum and electrical connections, and ofccourse the cable coming out the end going to your throttle. The cable is NLA, I believe. My cable broke a couple of years ago. No danger in not being connected, but you can remove the cable.

The brain is in the center of the front boot, right in front of the firewall.

I cut the cable near the servo to prevent it getting in the fan. That was my real fear.

Replaced my cruise contol cable in Feb of this year with a new one after the original broke...took a while to get it in (about a month if I remember right)

Where did you get it? I've not looked in a while, but they were NLA a couple of years ago.

My old cable was sticking. Got stuck at about 4000 rpm one day driving on the highway...lots of fun getting home.
