Auto Atlanta
Brand new to this forum - seeking advice here and apologize if this has already been discussed ad naseum. Have a 78 911 Targa SC restoration underway - project is probably 75% completed but need the remaining 25% to finish the drill. Just got the car in my possession, it was basically a roller then media blasted, rebuilt engine, PMO's on order etc. Is Auto Atlanta going to rip me off on this project as I have heard mixed reviews? They appear to be very busy, expanding with a 30 day "wait list" just to have cars looked at which suggests they must do something right? Appreciate any feedback good or bad on this outfit. Thanks

Welcome CHF3
Your question is interesting as not many do SC restorations, as the cars are relatively cheap and you get upside down restoring one very quickly. Most people spend half that restoration money buying a very nice example.
That said however i think you probably need to be a little more descriptive on what you want Auto Atlanta to do. I have never even heard of this outfit but that really means nothing. if you post what it is you are looking for them specifically to do, then some people might chime in on what they think the job is worth.
Of course pics always help us with this stuff

First, welcome to Rennlist.
Second, I would rather have surgery without pain killers then work with AA. I wouldn't give them the time of day. Sorry to be so blunt, but they have burned me and others to many times.
Third, I would go to a place that has a focus on 911's. They are more of a 914 outfit (and not a good one at that.)

In the Atlanta area, my first stop would be Franz Blam. They have extensive Porsche restoration experience, and would probably be able to guide you through the maze. I think AA is not worth your effort. If they have a part you want, walking in the front door and getting it over the counter is your best option when dealing with them.
I've been burned many times by AA. Just when I think it's safe to order a key blank, or crank seal or some other no-brainer...I get burned. Some(few) people have had OK dealings, but you've been warned.

A BIG red flag for me is when I see a poster's very first post asking about places like Automobile Atlanta, Motor Meister, Victory Motors, German Auto Dismantlers and the like...makes me think the poster may be associated with one of those firms on some level and is fishing for libelous or defamatory remarks to use for litigious or other self-serving purposes.
If that isn't the case here, the OP would be well advised to do a thorough search here and on the Pelican 911 forum.

Appreciate all the replies - no funny business here just looking for honest advice on who to trust for the remainder of this project. The car was purchased by a friend of mine who lived about 3 hours away and he had most of the initial work done locally by a hobbyist working out of his garage. Since that time both my friend and the guy working on it moved further away and are currently not in a position to help finish the car. I had the car transported to ATL last week. I ordered upholstry from GAHH and had the seats and interior recovered. Also ordered Weber PMO's from Pelican which will arrive shortly. I would like to post pics but not terribly familiar with site and not sure if I can attach directly from my computer or need to publish on a website first? I see a URL link but no upload option. I do not want to get ripped off and am discouraged by the 30 day "waitlist" at Auto Atlanta. Also, I was told that finding parts for the car would not be "any fun" and would take months. I was also quoted over $600 for steering column lock which seemed high. I am genuinely interested on solid advice on who to trust with finishing this car.

Welcome to Rennlist CHF3. The best initial investment you can make is an $18.00 membership to this site. Of course, the advice you get here is free but there are other membership benefits. At the top of this page next to the membership link is an "upload photo" link where you can upload from your PC then link to in your forum post. If you are new to the forums, you will find many threads chronicling restorations. These are fun to follow and extremely informative. Maybe you can start one...
