I'm a rookie what can I say, but I'm in love with my car and everything in the world of air cooled is new .... So a new question
After a few minutes of local road driving when I come to a light or stop sign, foot on the clutch the car is idling at close to 2000 RPM sometimes it drops, sometimes, not very unpredictable.
When its cool or highway driving idles at around 950-1000 RPM. If any of you have seen a previous post this car failed NJ inspection last week and Autohaus thinks its running rich (find out officially this Monday)
Are these issues tied together? Once had an old Mazda RX-7 with a manual choke that when cold would idle at 2000 RPM but when it warmed up choke would pop in and would dial down to 750....keep wanting to reach for the choke.... What's up here?
Thanks for all your advice this board's been amazing to read and post....

Adam, it certainly sounds like a "running rich" condition. I'm sure Autohaus will figure out what's wrong...also, they may look into your control pressure and warmup regulator to see if they're operating properly and at the correct pressures.
There are several things that can hold a high idle, even your O2 sensor could be the culprit.
Either way, I'm sure they'll figure out what's wrong and please share it with us.

Reporting back for with a result.
Car was running at an 8% mixture S/B 1% so they dialed it back which has addressed the idle problem and most certainly the emissions (will know for sure tomorrow).
Next project, for later in the year....oil drip, they tried for the quick diagnosis but nothing readily apparent, going to have to pull the motor. For now it runs fine and its not gushing so I'm going to make it my winter project this year.....

Adam,
You can do alot of detective work before pulling the engine. Sometimes a partial engine drop will work wonders to look the top of the engine over, and you can even replace most of the sensors behind the airbox with the partial lower. Walt Fricke detailed the procedure in an article on tech.rennlist.com.

Thanks Bill-
I'm going to do a thorough engine cleaning this weekend and start monitoring with cardboard etc, the exact location of the drip.
Wanted a quick impression from Gene. He was actually doing me a favor by having me wait for a bit for his full diagnosis until they're a bit slower and the labor rates go down
