They are all great cars with slight differences from one year to the next. Find the nicest example, lay down the cash, and you will probably never look back on your purchase regardless of year. This, of coarse given the same price point and condition.
I got this book and it was worth it.

And I got the Gold PLated Porsche Book. Hmm I could have written that too excpet it would have been about a 951.

Anyway this Man ^^^ Steve ^^^ is well known for knowing his stuff and is of course in the book. So listen there.

But on a separate note during discussion with racing guys like Sam Shahala and Juergen Steiner here in Houston, he advised me not to get an SC for modification. Not so much along the motor line, but much more along the suspension and geometry isssues. My 2 cents on this.

But I am looking for a 911 too. Probably a 88 3.2 Carrera. But maybe a 86 Turbo. You think I would have learned about the Turbos already .

I chose an'84 for the better fuel management system and the 915 for the mechanical clutch. It's my first porsche and I couldn't be happier.

I would vote for the Carrera, having had both (CIS in my SC and 930 - and even an old Scirocco - Motronic in everything else). CIS works great when it's all set up properly but Motronic is way less finicky. Better gas mileage too.

IIRC, the 86 has the updated suspension/chassis of a G50, but retains the 915. Best of both worlds..

I think that SC prices are starting to rise so may be a better long term purchase. But if you want to mod, it may not be a consideration. The ability to easily chip the Carerra and the larger more powerful motor may be more valuable to you. My choice would be the SC cause I already have the best 911 to drive.

The SC owners seem to think they have gold because most of them won't budge on the price or think they're selling you gold that looks like sh*t. I am so far 0-3 with white Sc coupes, about to move onto a different color. I'm eying up a 84 carrera but it's black, ehh.

Dont let color steer you away from a car. Cars can always be painted and that can be far simpler that mechanical work some times.

Oh I know about colors, just tired of black cars and upkeep since all i had was 90% black cars, 1%red and the rest was a combo of all sorts of colors. I'm searching and not giving up, no rush just wish people were honest when you discuss cars from out of state.

Host of Top Gear, an annoying Brit car show that manages to feature some pretty nice rides. That video was excruciating to watch.
