I'm trying to find 16" tires for my car, 225/50-16 front and 255/45-16 or 255/40-16 or 275/40-16 rear, but I can't find anything... Any suggestions for matching pairs?
Not much luck here... The Toyo links above had no tires for the rear. The only one to come close was the DOT rack tire R888 (I have those in 18" on my Boxster), but in 255/50-16; too tall. I would like tires with UTQG ratings between 140 and 200, and not 100 and below.
So really, are there no matching tires available for 8"x16" and 9"x16" Porsche wheels? Any one?
I just went through this ...fuggghetabout it! Finding 16s in 225 and 245 (I use 245/45s in the rear on 9s) in a treadwear above R-comps but under 200 is hen's teeth. You can find RA1s (again, in 245 but not in 255 that I've ever seen), but I opted to go with Hankooks, also an R-comp.

The only tire I could find are the Kumho XS in 265/45. A little taller than stock, but beggars can't be choosy. I have some 245/45 Potenzas I had stored that I just installed on my 9.5" wheels and they have that stretched look that I don't like. I just need to save up for the 265s. The 265s are only.5" taller than my 205/55 or 225/50.
I have talked to Neal at Tire Rack. It seems the only option is Kuhmo Ecsta XS in 225/50-16 front and 265/45-16 rear. The rears will then have a 2% bigger diameter than the fronts, but that is insignificant. Depending on rim offset, I would need to roll the fenders f/r. I also have to check clearence between the tire and oil pipes on the right rear. So I have to do my home work first...
I have done my homework and made up my mind. Kuhmo Ecsta XS 225/50-16 on the original Fuchs 7"x16"ET23.3 and 265/45-16 on 9"x16"ET15 will work on a standard narrow body Carrera. The clearence between the right rear wheel and the oil pipes is not a concern. The rear tires will clear the fenders with 0.3mm, so some light fender rolling will be required here to tuck the wheels neatly under the fenders. In the front, the 225's will stick 4.7mm outside of the fenders, so some more agressive fender rolling would be required, but I should be able to get those nicely tucked under too. As with all my cars, I use a wooden base ball bat to roll the fenders. On my 993 and 996, I managed to roll the rear fenders out by 1/2", in addition to tuck under the fender lip. So with some blood, sweat and tears, the car should have a pretty agressive stance with all four wheels flush to the fenders.
The height of a 265/45-16 wheel is 644.9mm or 25.4". The "ideal" 911 wheel height is 25" (1964-2004, from 2005 Porsche increased the overall tire heigth/diameter), so there is no concern about the additional 0.4" (1.6%). The tread width on all 265 tires is 265mm, however, the side walls will stick out further. There will be slight deviations between manufacturers, but one tire size from one manufacturer, should in principle be the identical to the same size from an other manufacturer.
thanks Fly. I am well aware of the theoretical height as iv been playing with the numbers on a few online tire size calculators. Really looking for an actual measurement though. The fact of the matter is you cant rely on those numbers. My old 245 45s were 1" wider tread than my cuffent bfg 245 50s and they are 24.25" tall when the calculator says they should be 25.6 . Id be fine with + or minus a half inch or less on those calculations but 1" difference ends up being quite a bit if you factor in both width and height
