Default Optima battery for 1973 911E

Has anyone installed Optima batteries in their early 911 (1969-73)? I now have a nice, unrestored '73 and would like to keep the battery boxes and surrounding area acid free.

Using the acid mats and routine cleaning is fine but I think a better solution would be to switch to Optima batteries (of course I'd need two for the '73).

Thanks for any advice!

I used a pair of these on my 1972 for 10yrs.

They were still good when I sold it. I always used a battery tender when the car was parked for more than a few days.

They fit with no battery box mods except for dropping a 2X10 behind to space them out. I also put a piece of 1/4" plywood under the strap to spread the pressure from the strap. You can see it in the pic.

This year I installed a Braille AGM in my 2003 996. I have an AGM in my BMW R1100RT. The bike battery was put in service 2003 and still works fine.
I like AGM batteries!

Frank - thank you for your reply and helpful info. Much appreciated.

I used Optima batteries with our 356 for years with a CTEK battery tender (one that had a setting that works with Gel batteries.
