Default How can you tell if you've got a G-50 transmission?

Don't shoot..............I'm new at Porsches and need help in telling what type of transmission a 1987 Porsche has.

Is the transmission code for the G-50 imprinted on the body of a Porsche? If not, what do I look for?

Thanks!

No, I think circlex is pulling your leg. :-)

'87 was the first year for the G-50 so if your car is an '87, there's a G-50 tucked away in there.

I'd think the best way would be to look at the part number on the transmission. Secondarily the existance of a hydralic clutch. This will help make certain no one changed out the running gear and backdated anything.

Reverse is to the left and up, if you have a 5 spd. It better be a 5 spd.

So that's why I ended up smacking the curb trying to pull out of a parking spot with an 86 Carrera.

I was test drving the car about 6 years ago and the salesman did not realize it had a G-50 conversion and the shifter bushings were worn. Thinking I was in first gear the car flew backwards into the curb...

honestly, you can tell from outside the car.......

the rear torsion bar body covers on the G50 are HUGE compared to the earlier cars.....can see it without even touching the car or opening the door
