1989-sway bar mount separation,..aarrgghhh

The Wevo unit might be intended to be run with their heaviest bars, and use a lot of contact area. And they will not tear away.
Just looking at it casually, a person might scribe some lines, cut, then tack the new parts in place with the bar bolted down but not attached. Check that the bar doesn't bind. Then remove the bat, and finish the welds on both sides.

Tis' strange, although I've not yet noted, in the MANY threads on this, "how many were Targas,...how many were Coupes,...etc..."...maybe some of the noted stiffness in the Coupes translate...mmmm....on the other hand,..maybe it's an even spread? Which WOULD make it quite "strange"..

Doyle,
A track buddy of mine tore both his mounts off last month on his stock 88 Coupe and he gave me a heads up and after checking mine i discovered the left rear was starting to tear...
I welded it back but i have to check them after every event. He had the Wevo brackets installed by a shop and it cost him pretty close to $600.00 dollars with the new bushings and alll, although those things look pretty much unbreakable. If i manage to finish the DE season unscathed i will definitely be welding the Wevo mounts on my car over the Winter.
Cheers!
Phil

Is it suggested to go ahead and replace the drop links and it's bushings, too (while I'm in there.....?).
Thanks to all for the advice/observations.... NOW, I'm considering going ahead and getting the rear shocks replaced, too...
Best....

wow,..for the hey of it, I decided to go back through the P.O.'s service tickets and found:
7/15/2002 @74K, Left Rear Sway Bar Bracket install (parts were ~ $110 !) THEN
11/5/2004 @97.2K, Right Sway Bar bracket install (parts showed ~90.00)...
forget the labor...........
I would guess this to reflect "getting that bushing outa' there"........just a footnote, as to her "service history" in this present area area of failure....
Best,
Doyle

it looks like that they mount the sways on the wevo mount "unloaded" and use it for aligning and proper measurement when welding it in place.
You think that when Porsche beefed up the bar... they should of beefed up the mounts as well..... maybe you need to stop using slics.

^ That would be to prevent binding and allow the swaybar consoles to be mounted square to each other.
The later 3.2s had bigger swaybars than the earlier ones, and they are more likely to tear free. I understand that the later Carreras handled like a dream compared to the earlier '84s for example.

^^I really question why his car has had repeated issues- to our knowledge, his car has never been on the track or really thrashed on backroads? Mine's been on with stock suspension/street rubber, stock suspension/R compounds, modified suspension/R compounds. All of this with hard suspension pickup points all around. If Targas are allegedly "uber flexible", I'd think I would've ripped my mounts out a long time ago with all of the reported flex that the ARB's would be trying to correct. I've got pics of a LOT of body roll prior to beefing up t-bars and shocks on R's at the track.

I've got stock '84 Carrera ARB's....never felt the need to drive myself crazy with unlimited choices of settings. My choice of 22/29mm t-bars worked really well for a balanced feel to me. That's a good point about the load on his...something's seemingly wrong.

Someone should check this, but I think Doyle's Silver Anniv Carrera has 21 mm sways, which is a whopping 3mm larger than our '84 sways. And, if it's been lowered, the links should be shortened a bit to boot..

Stock IS 21mm....I hear the last 2 years, they were much "longer" then the previous, due to something with the G50...
She has not been lowered..
I drive the dog sheeit out of her when it's time,..she's been on the track before (nothing new there). t's not "continuous" problems, as this is the first time in her life that a crack appeared. The PO certainly changed out the mounts (brackets---well, there is a piece of RUBBER there,..don't see anything unusual about getting aged rubber outa there?)
I've probably tested her 100's of time on the back streets out in the country, early AMs on the weekend, providing ample hard driving, probably as hard or harder than on the track.
Give me some examples that could be "wrong", as this seems VERY common on the 911's (just read through some PP posts). I guess many of these cars had this issue, probably relating to how HARD they're pushed. So, the question would/should also be proposed (answered) for those cars, too. (?) What's strange (to me) is that it's happened to SO MANY cars out there. This, alone, points to something of generality vs, specificity on my particular car.
Once I get the super-duper mounts in, I won't see this problem again,..mmm,......there's a clue. Does this mean a "load" issue (whatever that is) would still exist,..OR,..I can consider the upcoming repair to be of BETTER quality (plated steel) than what Porsche offered stock? (which is what most of my comrades state).
Otherwise, I'd like to hear some contentions of what "my specific problem" would be...Somehow, after thorough research, I'm not overly concerned that something's wrong with (just) my car. But I would consider any/all observations.
Thanks for everyone's inputs.

I think, as you, that the sways stayed the same..only the torsion bars increased.
Funny,..I was just reading through the Bentley Section 420-20, STABILIZER BAR
"""The rear stabilizer bar attachment points at the body have been upgraded. The newer stronger braces must be welded to the underbody. This work is best left to an authorized Porsche dealer or other qualified repair shop"""
Geez,..in addition to searches on various NGs, even the Bentley knows...............shows the "butterfly".......
