Default How the $@!#%$!!@@##! do you fit a torque wrench in THERE!!?

Doing a valve adjustment (1982 SC) and I have SSI muffler/exchangers and A/C. There is no way in hell I can fit my 3/8 torque wrench in there for the valve covers. Just will NOT fit for half the nuts it seems. Do folks use 1/4" micro torque wrenches? Any recommendations or advice?? Thanks folks.

Yes, I removed the A/C compressor and it's hanging out of the engine bay wrapped in a towel...

Yep, get a 1/4" micro torque wrench.

I used a needle type torque wrench on my first go-round and it was OK.

I used the micro torque wrench when I had the engine out of the car.

You'll get leaks at 7.9 lbs and less.

oh no here we go ... what do you guys torque your covers to and do they leak ?

My issue has really been this .. if you are putting new nylocks on it takes about 3 lbs of torgue due to the resistance of the nylock on the stud are you really torquing to what you think you are ?

I've never used a torque wrench on those fasteners in 37+ years.

I use an air ratchet and simply snug them up until I feel the gasket j-u-s-t begin to compress a little. A short-handled ratchet works just as as well. Its an aquired skill that every PO should learn, just like tightening spark plugs.

I go "ever so snug" plus "just a hair".

(I saw 106 on my truck's outside temp gauge in San Diego County yesterday)

Me either. Just a 1/4" drive ratchet, and tighten it snug. Was either Bruce Anderson or Jerry Woods who gave me that tip ~30 years ago at the Garretson shop. Might have even showed me on a 935 engine!
