hmm....if you have intermittant starts, then it's back to cleaning all contacts and checking tightness of the primary ignition, starting, and charging circuits.

Too funny. Hope you're having fun.

I'm prone nursing a pretty screwed up stomach this evening. I'm not having fun.

Hopefully, progress is being made and hasn't been affected by off-the-wall comments
and hyperbole posted as one re-reads this thread, e.g.:

"A weak battery can also "bounce". Meaning, under load it can provide surge current that may exceed the starter's demand and supply enough current to drive the starter and coil (or other devices)

- Scott C-

Do what?

"Have you looked at the Cayenne's Body Control Module? It will do this at ~12V and not let the vehicle start..... and flash air suspension warnings.... and airbag warnings.."

- Scott C -

A 911 3.2 is nowhere near the complexity of a Cayenne and to even mention any Cayenne type
issues in this thread, is totally ridiculous. Hopefully, this guy doesn't work for a Porsche dealer
or an independent! Stick to the Off Topic type of forums unless factual (fully researched) info
can be presented or Rennlist members typically will waste time and money.

Loren, I've done everything shy of putting on a tinfoil hat. I'll be swapping out the ECU with a friend soon. If that isn't it, bring a trailer.

I do stand corrected on the battery topic. As you know, an unloaded battery will have a higher voltage than an-loaded battery. I mis-typed the response so I'm guilty of that.

What I meant to say is: The starter, being the heavier electrical consumer, will draw current away from the lighter consumers and create undesired effects.

For us simple folk, it is like watching the dome light dim when the starter is engaged. The same "dimming" holds true for other consumers.

And, finally, in the spirit of your research of Off Topic, pi$$ off.

Makes me wonder if it would bump start each and every time it's tried....why? Because I do see the node light (I have clipped onto the coil) dim when I hit the key. Perhaps the started is drawing too much current for the ECU to function properly. Hmmmm

Don't give up! I'm sure if you contribute to the beer on a Saturday,
the forum members will contribute time to solving your problem
in a few hours. Just think of all the 911s that will be there as
'donors' for parts in troubleshooting.

UPDATE:Fired right up.

Rusnak, you are a stud!!!

Rusnak sent me one each of a tested and re-built ECU, AFM, and ICV. It took me one Tramadol, one and a half Meloxocam, four Advil, an hour and a half of pain, and my son checking on me periodically to make sure I was still among the living. End result.....FIRED RIGHT UP.

Again, RUSNAK you are not only my wife's sushi stud, you are my hero.

It never fired the first time I turned the key. I always had to turn it a second time.
