I feel a statement of thanks to a fellow R-lister is in order. I wanted to make that gesture here amongst my nucleus p-car friends in the 911 forum.
Yesterday evening I was given the opportunity to cross off a "bucket list" item that would have normally never have happened.
Some of you may know that I am a fan (understatement) of the band RUSH. For close to 3 decades I have grown up with the music and influence of this band much to my betterment, and meeting the members of this band has been a dream. I met Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson yesterday thru the sole efforts of a fellow Rlister/Porsche enthusiast/RUSH fan.
Doyle (Dshepp) arranged for this meeting with great effort. 3 weeks ago I received two, 7th row/center stage tickets (for last nights greenville NC show)by fedex from Doyle as a gift...thats right, he gave them to me. Earlier this week he contacted me with the news that he had also arranged for me to have "meet and greet" passes to meet the band before the show and I just had to pick them up at will-call. GASP...you what? Thats right, he gave them to me. Doyle had to orchestrate this for me over a period of time; making phone calls, copius emails...asking for BIG favors. He put forth a great deal of effort on my behalf, and we've never met.
I don't intend for this to start a discussion about RUSH, ther's an OT thread for that. I do want to illistrate that the fellowship of Porsche owners is tremendous.
Doyle, you've acted with an uncommon grace. Your generosity, thoughtfulness, and kindness will never be forgotten.
I walked into the store this morning and the checkout lady said "you look like your having a good day". "I am" I replied. I feel redeemed in a certain capacity not for having met "THE band", but for benefitting from such a selfless and thoughtful gesture.
Cheers to Doyle and to the Porsche community.

Scott.......first, thank for sharing the story.
Sometimes we forget about how powerful 'acts of kindness' can be. It reminds me of the commercial on TV where someone does an act of kindness and the receiver then gives to another and it becomes a exponential snowball of kindness/giving. Kudos to Doyle for such a thoughtful gesture.......and thank you for all the help you have given me over the past months. Kindness is contagious.

this is the COOLEST thing I've read here ever.
And now my day is pretty good too. Doyle, my eternal respect. WB, you're one of the beloved contributors here, you know that. This really makes my week, and I'm having a pretty good week.

What a great story. I'm so glad you got to meet the guys and enjoy the show.
Rush is a great Canadian treasure, and many of the folks on here are wonderfully generous with more than just Porsche knowledge. It's a great forum to be part of.
Nice job there Doyle.

Scott (and others),
I thank you for the kind words. There are so many great people (and a VERY few, not so great) on this NG, and I'm grateful for having had the opp to engage all of you. I live, vicariously, through many of the posts as to Porsche work. It is truly a gift bestowed me.
I won't make this a RUSH thread but will say that this band is my "human resonance" in MANY ways (and I've wished to be Canadian ever since). I've met many people who truly feel the same, and Scott is one of 'em. I knew it from the beginning, as the right descriptive adjectives were used. If anyone "deserved" this, it would be Scott.
BEST to ALL of you!!!!!!!!! Our lives are so short, and I'm WAY higher than Scott in feeling good about it all. Luckily, he accepts gifts from strangers!!!!!
Although not technical, I can only think to post the lyrics to one of my fav RUSH songs (well, there goes avoiding a RUSH thread......),..as it certainly poetically applies to we RENNLISTERS!!!!
"Entre Nous , by RUSH
We are secrets to each other
Each one's life a novel
No one else has read
Even joined in bonds of love
We're linked to one another
By such slender threads
We are planets to each other
Drifting in our orbits
To a brief eclipse
Each of us a world apart
Alone and yet together
Like two passing ships
[Chorus:]
Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes fear to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow
We are strangers to each other
Full of sliding panels
An illusion show
Acting well rehearsed routines
Or playing from the heart?
It's hard for one to know
[Chorus]
We are islands to each other
Building hopeful bridges
On a troubled sea
Some are burned or swept away
Some we would not choose
But we're not always free
[Chorus]
Thanks to all who have helped me along....
BEST!
