Default Engine stall when oil cap is released

Hi.
I just had a major tune up on my 1986 911. Now the engine dies when I take off the oil cap. I've had the car 5 years and this has never happened before. The previous owner of 20 yrs. also never had this issue. My mechanic says it's a 'closed system' and needs that seal. So now I have to fake it out by sealing with my hand and sneaking the dip stick in in between my fingers quickly before it dies.
Normal?
Thanks,
Ron

I am of no use to you other than to wish you a warm welcome to rennlist. It seems I've seen this discussed before. You'll have an answer in no time. My guess is that you have a vacuum leak somewhere else in the system and having the cap off is leaning it out too much to stay running.

Not normal. Does it do that with the engine hot? You might check the oxygen sensor to make sure it's plugged in and working properly.

not normal .......
1. make sure idle is set correctly to start with
2. Pretty sure that car is the same as the SC and have a bafle in the breather line from the crankcase to the tank designed specifically to stop this from happening.

Were any hoses changed out by your wrench?

You are missing the restrictor that goes in the hose at the top of the oil tank.

Last year my mechanic replaced these hoses and he forgot to put the restrictor back in and my car stalled every time I tried to check the oil.

With the restrictor in place, when the oil cap is removed the rpms will drop a little but she won't stall.
