Thank you for all the great responses. All my favorites chimed in. Ed Hughes, I hope your recovery is fast and uneventful. The medical version of dragon naturaly speaking is godsend, without which I would have had carpal tunnel in both my hands from all the endless typing. BTW, the icing in the cake is far from complete guys. As you all know I had a leak within two months of my car's purchase : https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=76429

Well Ed (ivangene) just sent me this email a couple of days ago:

WOW Amar, your car is getting a workout...I saw the oil line, you are really lucky Kyle went over that with a fine toothed comb!!! That could have let go at any point and cost you a motor - scary, I am going to have a look at my oil lines ASAP!!

They found an intake leak with was causing it to run lean (another thing that will kill these cars) and THAT is most likely what was causing the rough idle...I looked high and low at your car on the rack last night. Checked a few things I know. You are going to be driving a different car when you get it back.....also found Koni adjustable shocks in the rear, do you have the "key" for those.. (it’s a white plastic "****" used to set the dampening) - your main suspension bushings all look good, new sway bar bushings I saw, clutch is set right, wheel bearings re-set correctly, muffler is "thinning" due to rust, that will go at some point, one A/C line to the condenser up front is severely twisted from a previous repair... its fine, but saw it and wanted to mention it. Motor and trans mounts could be replaced anytime, they are "tired" there is a crack in the paint on the drivers trans mount that is allowing some moisture in, its not a big deal but fixing it before it is would be smart.. I think just a little clean up and spray with paint when changing the mounts would work.

for sure the clear bra on the front right lower is slightly bubbled and if you look "up" at the bottom of the bumper under the blinker there are a some spots that are peeling.

OK enough of the bad - seriously your car is in great shape. I am being pretty picky and want you to have a safe and reliable car, and I want you to know what things I would want to know. I think you did very well and have a real "keeper" maintenance on these isnt cheap but it has to be done and it has to be done right. I spend a ton of time "tinkering" and fixing things....If I was to do all the things I have done at once, the bill would be 1/2 the price of my car... but I just plug away on my list. I changed the steering wheel, replaced brakes and my oil for the transmission came yesterday... so its never ending here too...part of the owning process is the paying, repairing, driving, enjoying, maintaining, and making friends.....

anyhow, see you soon - the car is looking fantastic, when its done you wont remember the stress of getting it done, you will just love that its all done and you can really feel confident in driving it. I will let you know how the trasn oil change goes.... looks like a pain in the butt ( no pun intended )

I would love to drive your car after its fixed up too.... I would like to feel the differences... let me know if I can see you when you come pick it up or maybe go on a test drive from the shop"

The guy (Ed) has been a perpetual custodian for my car, laying his hawk eyes to every single work done to my car. I am very lucky to have a friend like that and I would like to thank the RL 911 section. The piece of mind for me living 140 miles away thanks to Ed is priceless. BTW, the service writer JR from the shop called me today and echoe'd exactly what Ed had mentioned on his email that I have attached above. Apparently they had a track day earlier in the week and he could not fill me in with the details. The crack on that oil line was a hair line crack, the master mechanic has never seen such a minute crack is what I was told. After a twenty minute chat with me on the phone, the service writer who himself has owned and tracked several air-cooled 911s told me not to get disheartened with all the bad news coz he has seen very few 3.2's that are mechanically and cosmetically as sound and original as mine. So I guess all is well.

No surprises, IMO. Just some wear items and 25 years on the clock.

I will try to get a pic of that oil line...

I actually dont even watch them work on my car. Its something i know about mechanics.... they dont want the owner looking over thier shoulder. I never even go in the shop when my car is getting worked on except a cursory.. "hey guys....looks great" then I leave them alone......Its been good to be a little more involved in this work. I have learned a few things to look for on mine.

Amar and I have been both busy and this forum seems to be as good as any for keeping in touch. Plus its fun to share.

Woot, I am new to the lists but I did come accross a post of your's some time ago on the 997 list, and it helped me with a decision I had to make with respect to my wonderful 1985 Carrera, which I have owned since new.

I did purchase a new 997 c2, and your post convinced me that I should keep my 3.2 and I am very glad I did. My wife tells me that I am crazy, but if I am, I know I have good company. Keep the faith!

Thanks Ed for the teaser shots. Just got off the phone with the C. Powell (for the benefit of others, he is the owner / Technician Member of PCA National Technical Committee 911SC & Carrera) and regarded as one of the best Porsche mechanics in the Pacific Northwest. After spending quite of bit of time with my car, in his opinion, this is one of the best 3.2's he has seen in recent times and warned me that I better not part with it as cars like these don't come by very often. There goes my dream of owning a classic 911 with a burgundy or red interior and a black anodized Fuch finish

Red interior
I am looking for a black one...both my cars have been "off black" interiors (green/grey, and savanna)
