Several threads over on the 997 and 997 GT3 board about that app... It is very cool. In fact, I met up with a Rennlister at Road Atlanta a few weeks bakc who was using it....

From what some of the threads said (from memory), it will have trouble holding a GPS signal at speed using the iPhone alone... Many use a TomTom base as both a charger and GPS signal-amplifier...

Harry's LapTimer is pretty cool but my experience is that an 'external' GPS like a TomTom iPhone kit is essential. But even after buying a kit its still a damn good deal compared to a standalone gps timer. I think the interface in some sections could be slicker and Harald is continuing actively to develop the product. Like many small developers, he likes feedback and is happy to communicate with users about issues and gets back to you quickly. I really like being able to modify tracks so that you can insert your own intermediate points or even build your own tracks using Google satellite maps. Certainly worth a try.

Now all you gotta do is make sure you have cell service at your track. Seems I've been to a few where that is a problem.

I won't bother with the Droid version because on my Samsung phone, the GPS doesn't work worth a fart, and the amount of suckage of donkey ballage is very high.

I have had Harry's lap timer for about a year now and it works pretty well once you figure out how to use it, a bit confusing at first (do NOT hit "start" before you drive to the hot pits for you session, just drive).

I can say that it works at Willow Springs, Streets of Willow, Buttonwillow, and Laguna Seca. Sometimes it crashes in the middle of a session but in my experience it is usually within a tenth or 2 of the official POC transponder timing.

Of course iPhone GPS isn't the most accurate but it works great for 14 bucks, I can't afford a $1,000+ Traqmate system.

Quick Reply: Awesome iPhone lap timer app.
