Question about failed alternator/ fan
Changed my fan belt and discovered that the fan hub metal had been shifted around/ worn away. I'll post a picture or two when I get a chance. Knew I had a problem after changing the belt and heard scraping/ rubbing on the outer housing.
The alternator's bearings had lost about half the ***** after I pulled the unit, and the fan literally fell off the shaft.
New alternator and fan ordered, along with outer pulley and new shims since the one on there is a double pulley half.
Are there any other components that would have been affected by this? I'm planning on doing my first autocross this weekend and would like the car to be in safe operating shape.
The alternator and fan assembly were replaced 30k ago with rebuilt/ used parts.

It may be that the fanbelt was simply overtightened and caused the alternator bearing to fail, and thus the carnage, but if not I could see a couple different things causing this.
Was the woodruff key on the alternator shaft intact when you pulled it apart? The spacer washer behind the fan?
Too few shims can also cause this. You need at least 6 total to prevent the nut from bottoming on the alternator shaft threads.
Also make sure that the fan housing is not cracked, make sure that the bottom of the housing engages the lug on top of the engine case before you tighten anything, and don't overtighten the strap.
