Our formal-ish intro?
Just wanted to say Hey to everyone over here in the 911 Forums. Usually I hang out in the 944 forums, but my dad and I have acquired a few 911 projects this summer
We race a Phoenix Red 914/6 #70 in EP here in the MiDiv. We're two time Regional Champs, but won't be racing this season due to my dads full shoulder replacement, which is why I'm finally getting into the racing scene.
Currently we have a 76 911S that, with some assistance from Dad, I'm converting to an ITR car for the whole family to drive. My mother and I will drive it in ITR, and my dad will drive in GT2 (maybe?) for fun.
We also have a Targa that we're building for GT2. We're looking to build something in the style of Gus Rosenthal's or Robert Overby's cars. We know that it most likely won't be competitive, but it should prove to be unique and fun. If anybody has any pictures or information on Targa's converted for racing we would greatly appreciate it!
We've also found information on a model that was built of Overby's car. If anybody has one or knows of someone who does and might want to sell it, send us a message!
I assume you'll be hearing from us quite a bit in the following months as we look for ideas and advice.
I'll post up some pictures of everything soon!

Welcome! I like your 914 - one of my favorite Porsches is the 6GT.
I'm interested to hear more about your Targa to GT2 build i.e. why build a GT2 from a Targa. Do you anticipate any issues with addressing body structure stiffness?

Thanks! He's progressing well. Hopefully he will be 100% by next season!
Will do! On a slightly ironic note... We're missing the bumper smiley.
Thanks!
We're not quite sure if it will be in GT2, just a guestimate so far. It's going to be a replica of a Trans Am racer that was raced by Bob Overby in the first 3 races fo the 1980 season and later bought by Gus Rosenberg.
To our knowledge, it started as a Targa with a small wind deflector up front and no rear glass. It then had the Targa bar removed and a top was fastened to the car, I believe when Gus owned it. We don't know all the facts about the original car, but we're doing research everyday and trying to put the car's history together.
The cage is allowed to have 6 points of contact with the chassis. So with the cage tied into the chassis I don't believe we'll have any rigidity issues. I believe Gus Rosenberg has been quite successful with this car in the Northeast Region.
Here is a picture of Rosenbergs current car. We believe Gus either sold the car or recaged the original car, because in this picture it is missing a kink that was present on the original car.
