Default Wide Body (M491?)

What was the first year of the wide body in the US? Was it always called M491?

According to this source, early cars did not carry the 491 designation.

Thanks in advance,

1984 was the first year for US consumption.

There are folks who say you could special order an SC with the turbo body. Perhaps this is true, however, if that was available, it was a "special wishes" car and there was no corresponding code to determine its authenticity except perhaps on an original Window Sticker. In 1984 it became a factory option available to (all?) markets, hence the 491 designation for tracking the "turbo look" option.

iirc, wasn't the 491 numbering the same code used to denote an "RSR" back when the "RS" was introduced in '73?
