Still doesn't address the valve guides. This thing have over 200K on the original engine? Even if it was one of the ones that crapped out in the 70-80K range, you're approaching the useful life of even the best of the phosphorous bronze replacements.

I've seen engines run ~1K/qt. basically forever, I've seen others turn into a-quart-every-fillup. In practice, a proper running one of these will burn a quart about ever 3K.

Personally, I get nervous if ANY cylinder is +5% leakage.

But it looks like this is a done deal, so enjoy!

Sorry but I am confused now, I though it was a turbo deck lid but it is not. Do I simply need a new grille in that case?

Thanks,

A quart every 750 is pushing it. Porsche sent out a series of technical service bulletins and IIRC, a quart every 800 was acceptable?. This after they kept reducing the milage/consumption quotient to pad their liability, and it seemed that the acceptable oil consumption(by Porsche's everchanging standards) was rediculously high.
If it be so...a top end rebuild is nothing in the scheme of things. Do this before the paintwork. It sure beats the hell out of a IMS bearing failure.
Thing to do; change the oil using a good, proper weight oil. Maybe twice if you don't know or like whatever oil has been in the car. Drive the car a few days after complete oil change/fill up. Park the car on a level surface and pull the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert(with engine still running and at opperating tempature after a good heat soak) and pull it out after 3 seconds. Disregard for now where the oil level reads as long as its acceptable. Take a pointed scribe and make a mark were the oil level is at on the dipstick...a nice clean line, not a silly mess. Dive the car 1000 miles, and park it in the same spot at the same temperature Etc. Pull the dipstick, wipe clean, reinsert for 3 seconds and remove. Make another scribe mark at this new level. Add a quart of your oil and see where it jives with the first scribe mark. Don't trust the oil, the milage or the claims from the previous owner. This may debunk or confirm your oil consumption problem.
