I'm writing this post from NE Pennsylvania with my 1981 911 sitting in a driveway surrounded by 24+ inches of snow. I made the trek from my home in South Florida to my parents home for the holidays. Upon my arrival, mother nature dumped a record amount of snow on Christmas day. The only problem I had on the trip was a loose O2 sensor that disconnected itself near D.C., leaving a hole in my Cat. A local auto parts store supplied me with a replacement and I continued.
1. Does anybody else drive their old 911's on long trips?
2. Am I the only fool who chooses to drive his 911 in the snow?
3. I've since found my 911 (with worn Yokohamas) to be great fun in the snow. I've only gotten stuck once, when I attempted to park on a 2 foot hill of snow, thus grounding the bottom of the car.
4. Are 911s considered good winter cars?

1987 Cabriolet - three days before Christmas 1254 miles in 17 hours! Actually was a blast and got out of Chicago before bad weather hit. Now sunny in St. Petersburg! Here is a picture - 69 degrees today!

Sure, I have logged in several hundreds of thousands of miles in old 911's (and 356's). Lots of the miles were from long trips.
2. Am I the only fool who chooses to drive his 911 in the snow?
Not really. My 'ol SC was my year round car for most of the 9 years I owned it. There are more fools out there.

Okay... Ummm, I like Yokohamas too. I do not like 2 foot snow banks.
4. Are 911s considered good winter cars?
Ha... No. Unless your one of us fools.

Todd,
I usually take one long trip every year, averaging around 1,000 to 1,200 miles. I put the 911 under wraps during the winter months to avoid those nasty chemicals and salt.
Jeremy,
Nice Cab... made me wander out to the garage pull the cover back and sit in my mine with visions of 69 degree weather dancing in my head.
