Default Taking my door apart. Help please.

I am removing the inner door panel from my '87 Carrera. Does anyone have a tip on how to remove the little round black piece of plastic from the center of the manual lock ****?

Thanks in advance.

I believe it pries out...the corner of a single edged razor blade carefully used should get in the crack.

^ yes. Needle nose pliers for the inner latch, long hex key for the handle.

A small jeweler's flat blade scredriver works best for me,..then the hex.

This is the perfect job for a dental tool, also.

I keep a few in the toolbox for interior work

I've also got some plastic lever/pry tools, which are pretty friendly to plastic pieces.

Honestly, I was going to try a #15 blade and a root tip pick.

Very nice. Clean and light weight.

I am doing this because the door does not lock via the central locking mechanism. It will unlock but won't lock. It will lock manually, though. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks to all.

You will probably find a broken plastic coupling piece that connects the door lock rod to the swivel joint.

You can find these from the dealer for a few $$ and it is an easy fix. There should be four in each door so I suggest you replace them all while you have the door open.

Jim,
I have the exact same problem with the passenger door on my '87.
Let us know how you make out.

I plan on taking both of my doors apart relatively soon and I'm going to address the lock on my passenger door, a sticky window on my driver door, and while I'm in there... lube anything that moves, new vapor barriers and most likely new door speakers.

Scott,
Thanks for that info. This is helpful to all of us.

I had the same problem with the automatic lock on my 88 Carrera. One of the plastic socket ends that go over the ball had cracked, I tried buying the single ball socket, but it is NLA. You have to buy the whole Central Locking System Operating Rod with the socket on it. Pelican has them for $5.50 each, P/N 964-537-571-00-M100. I did a little more checking and found the ball sockets on an automatice heating rod are 100% interchangeable & fit very well. Cost is $2.25 each, P/N 999-168-021-40-M100. I bought 8 and changed all mine due to the age of the old ones. corrected my problem. Hope this help.
