Red keys were "valet keys".. Back then I am not sure, but I guess RED didn't undue the glovebox whereas the Black would have undone all vehicle locks and the ignition. (there wasn't much for keys to do back then
)

I know the 914s had a locking trunk latch/pull mechanism. Not sure if the 911's did but agree that if equipped, then the valet key would not have accessed the trunk lock either.

if mine hadn't been hiding in the garage the last 4 months i would remember .. I am pretty sure I have locked that before ..

Thank you for all your help. Much appreciated as are the kind comments about my Orange Crush. She is a Paint to Sample Turbo built in April of 1987. From what I've learned three were painted in metallic orange. Another 930 and a slope nose that's part of Richard Sloan's collection. The color is stunning and perfect for a Turbo.
