i have a 1980 911 sc

I would like to get the best bulbs for the car in terms of light without having to do any other wiring or relay changes

i found these bulbs rated at 55w h4 which to me look like they can be safely used with no mods

What lights do you have? Sealed beam or H4s? If H4s, you can use any H4 bulb, with the recommendation that you stick with a 55/60 w bulb. With sealed beams, you're pretty much stuck with what ya got.

However, I would highly recommend that you add a couple relays to the headlight circuit to protect your not cheap headlight switch and wiper stalk. The relays are easy and quick to install and are more than worth the few dollars they cost. You can get a kit here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...2D%38%39%29%20

With the relays, you can use pretty much any wattage bulb you want.

 

It depends on what kind of headlight housings you have. If you have Euro H4 assemblies, they will work. If you have sealed beam (sugar scoop) housings, they won't. Which do you have?

 

...and welcome to rennlist ... the whole problem is you don't have relays .. add em .. cheap insurnace ..lots of great threads on that in here ... I even heard some moron melted his turn signal switch multiple times until he gave in and put the relays in.

 

Wow, how are they getting xenon bulbs to work in H4 housings? Is the ballast built into the bulb?

 

They look like regular old H4s to me

OK, stupid question #1. What factory housing (bulbs) will a 1988 930 Turbo have? I have replaced my bulbs a few years ago and had to replace my switch since. The low beam - high beam thing just took a dump, not a quick replacement, but after a bloody knuckle, or two, i'm back with lights.
This is the first I have read about the bulb issue. I bought the Sylania "bright silver" bulbs. I also have a 76 911 with H4 converted head lamps. I removed the lamps only to find spliced wires.
Where should I look for the relays? in either car? I was thinking about getting brighter bulbs for the 76, phew! maybe I should not fix what's not broken . . . . .
