Kennedy Motorsports: Beware

I just had a horrible experience with Ryan Kennedy who owns Kennedy Motorsports. Last Saturday I agreed to pay full price and made a deposit on a 1992 911 they had on consignment. It was advertised here last Friday in the classifieds as "good as new, none nicer". I was also told by Mr. Kennedy , a self proclaimed expert in re P cars, that the car was "perfect with all original paint" and the price was fixed.. As it turned out, car was not so perfect. I learned this mid Monday morning when Mr. Kennedy called and told me that he had just discovered rust in the cowl of the car (as well as a repainted hood). Nevertheless, I told Mr. Kennedy I still really wanted the car. He assured me he would give me first chance to buy it once the rust was repaired. He also assured me he would work with the owner to adjust price to let me do the rust repair. On Tuesday morning I woke up to an email from Mr. Kennedy simply stating that car was sold. To say the least, I was stunned! I just don't know for sure what happened although, upon reflection, i have a suspicion. At 7 o'clock Monday morning i awakened with a call from Mr. Kennedy telling me he had received extraordinary interest in the car over the weekend and wanted to make sure i wanted to proceed. I think i disappointed him when I said did. Then, a few hours later, I received the aforementioned call from Mr. Kennedy disclosing the newly discovered rust. My suspicion is the existence of this rust was made up as a way to effectively nullify our agreement so the car could be sold for more. That's just a suspicion. In any event, I am still trying to recover my deposit, Mr. Kennedy assures me its coming but i have reason NOT to believe him.

Sorry to hear about your deal fall through. That's just not right IMO. Don't worry, there is a 911 waiting for you somewhere. Good luck. Keep us posted when you eventually do get into one.

I deal with Kennedy all the time and get nothing but great service. The '88 928 I'm driving now came from there and I love it. I have purchased and sold several Porsches through them over the years and always get treated fairly.
I'm sorry the original poster is unhappy, that's never a good thing, but readers of this thread should remember there is always two sides to every story.

WTF...
If that's it someone's got some splainin' to do...

My guess is that Mr Kennedy is going to claim that he didn't know about the motor either. It's not even the same engine management so really how the heck???

The 75 targa is another offering by Kennedy Motorsports. It is why I thought it was appropriate to post here in the 911 category.
ps--geez, i really like this 75 targa too. maybe i should apply my unreturned deposit from the 964.....ahh, forget it about it.

It's all starting to come together. Do you think that whoever posted the pictures on the website just couldn't tell the difference between the two silver cars cars? They are both silver 911's to some webmaster offsite. Well, one is a 911 and the other is a glorified VW.![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
IS THAT THE BRUMOS #59 GT2 in the background ???????

Sometimes car deals just go sideways...
The last car I sold, I backed out of a deal with a stranger because I thought he was trying to screw me. The car was at my family's place in Ohio and I had alredy moved to Kansas. All I had to go on was a gut feeling from talking to the guy on the phone. He was a super *** hole and he wanted to pay with Pay pal. I had NOT taken a deposit, but I halted the transaction and sold the car for less money to a close friend in Ohio. The guy then proceeded to make a "Beware" thread about me on Pelican.
I guess my point is sometimes stuff just happens. Hopefully you're not too inconvenienced, and I seriously hope you get the deposit back! I'm sure you'll find the right car soon enough. It's a buyer's Market! At least you're not out the whole price of the car.
