For those of you lurkers out there that may be looking to buy a car (like me), I would just like to reiterate the importance of getting a PPI.
I found an '84 Black Targa at a Dodge dealer in southern NJ and was able to negotiate a decent price - contingent on the PPI. Well, the PPI showed that the car had been in a pretty big accident (but the Carfax came up clean).
I'm not an expert on cars and there is no way that I could have been able to determine that the car had been in a wreck. It was a big let down, because I liked the car, but I didn't want a 'salvage' car.
BTW... this was an aftermarket widebody... my mechanic told me to watch out on these cars because he's seen a lot of widebody conversions occur on cars that started out being damaged. It sort of makes sense to me.
Anyway... just thought I'd share my experience.
Still looking for an SC or Carrera in NJ.

Preeble,
FWIW, you might want to check out the local PCA chapters in your area for used cars - Schattenbaum (sp?), Riesentoter (eastern PA), as well as Northern New Jersey. Also, check out some of the Porsche specialists in your area - they may know of a client who's selling, or may even have a car for sale. And don't forget Rennlist's classifeds. Have fun with your search, but take your time. As I learned from personal experience, there are a LOT of POS's out there!

Preeble - a bit further to the north, the North East Region PCA always has quite a few cars for sale. Check out:

A good source of sources is the Oregon PCA website <a href="http://www.oregonpca.org/News/porsches_for_sale.htm" target="_blank">here.</a> Most sources allow you to scan for location.
