Francars:
there are 2 1989 911's for sale in PCA classifieds. One is $16k with 124k miles and car needs nothing. If I were you I would only buy a Porsche in perfect shape with lots of records and long ownership histories. Example cost of cluth $2,500, 30k service $1800 from dealer (independents less). If you think you are saving a few thousand, you will probably just give it to the mechanic/body shop. I have read that a perfect factory paint job is over $20k and still not as good as the factory. I believe the factory put 8 coats of paint on the car in these years

Thanks for the feedback. So I went to look at car and owner is selling due to divorce, etc. Car was recently registered/smoged in CA. Car originally from NY. CARFAX looks clean. No rust. Interior looks great, has some cosmetic rips in sunroof (nothing major). Has a few dents and does not need any major body shop work. Oil was clean and NO leaks. Engine sounded right. Seller used to be mechanic for Porsche and other dealers and seem pretty honest about car. I hear you guys about getting a cleaner car. This one looked pretty clean to me but needed some help. I am right now on the fence on what price to ask for it. Car is in O K condition IMO.

Yeah. Only you have to have a car to join.
They have a "PCA Quest" program. $40 for six months, limited privileges. Kind of a rip-off.

I sold my 1989 64'000 km 3.2 yesterday had my'89 for five years. I bought it in good shape (all stock with 44'000 km) with one previous owner. I spent over five years on average 3000 us$ a year for repairs, and oil changes which I'm too lazy to do myself.
Hong kong garages are probably 25% more expensive for labour and parts 50% more due to shipping costs.
I wouldn't buy another one...will be getting a Mk 6 Golf GTi.
As you can see I only got 20'000 km of use that's roughly one dollar per km !
