Default Advice on 1970T Roller

So I looked at a 1970T that has updated bumpers, You can see the photos in the link. I have more but I'm at work so I can't upload them here. The car is $1,700 but it will require a lien sale to get the title which means $600 more.

I'm looking at gettting a Pre-74 to make a light weight ST type car so most of the parts that are not there are ones I would want anyways. I have every intention of taking it down to the bare metal and starting from scratch. The passenger door does not open but the driver's does and the door frame looks ok. The pans need replacement and I'm guessing the area for the front suspension will too. The front clip was not cut but what is remaining will need to be replaced also. The rear flares are steel but are lap welded so they will have to be reinstalled correctly. No engine or Trans.

My gut felling is that it's not doable and it would be nice to have an engine as well. Guessing $2000~$3000 for an engine that needs a rebuild, $1500 for new fiberglass front fenders and hood......tranmission and wheels(want to get Superlites). are needed also. We're running into $8000 outside of sheetmetal repair and more. I think the front glass needs to be replaced as well.

I'm just looking for a car to build and I'm in no hurry to get it completed.

I'll post more photos tonight. Your thoughts?

I don't think even Porsche Classic would tackle that one.
"Rust isn't too severe, but I haven't had a chance to look at the car closely yet. The passenger side body around the torsion tube was damage by a fork lift and is torn."
Now, that's a confidence-inspiring description. He may be exagerating anyway, since I've been told CA Blue Plate cars don't rust.
good luck!

Minus the wheels, it looks to be worth whatever the scrap value is. I don't think this is a good starting point Ed. Perhaps consider getting in touch with Dave at TRE. He's built a bunch of these types of cars, from mild SC/Carrera backdates with bolt-ons, to ground-up "sports-purpose" themed restorations. He'll steer you in the right direction and has all the right parts to do it.

I had a long drive home and added the parts in my head. I don't think it's a doer. On a side note the seller was really accomodating and was open and honest. I told him that I was going to get the internet opinion and he had no issue with me linking his sale thread from here or Pelican. I told him I was looking for a Targa as well and he mentioned that he had one in better condition. I see what he has there too. I'll post the photos soon..

It's a no...

I don't want a backdate since Pre75 in CA require no smog.

I don't know what's up with that windshield but the grease looking deposit is in the glass it also has fairly large bubbles in the glass.

The tear was in the fender not near the torsion tube. But yeah the original ad doesn't make it sound too pleasing.

Wow. And to think I've got a 100% rust free '73 shell with butt welded real RS flares and still decent paint that a couple of guys have suggested I'd be lucky to get that kind of money for..........
