RS Clone vs 69 w/3.2

guys, I thought you were helping me. Seems even votes for old school or new :-). If I can get the 69 for under $20k, I might make it into a project. Keep the suggestions coming.

If you think that you can get the 69 for under $20K, go for it. If you want an all around NOCAL car I recommend a 997 cab, not a GT3.

PO: If you are considering a $90K clone, perhaps you should take a look at this car. The owner did a full resto on it, including a rebuilt 3.2. And it is an RSR clone, which looks more badass, IMO. Originally was asking $68K and recently dropped to $62K. It needs nothing from what I gather. I think it is located near San Diego. Here's the link to the ad and details on the build: http://www.readynet.com/forsale/

Wow. I've talked semi-seriously with a couple of guys to reassemble the zero rust '73 faux RS with the near-zero mileage 3.2L and can't get any interest above $15K. Which obviously isn't enough to motivate me.

That silver car above looks fantastic and looking through the ad I would consider it easily worth the price if that's the sort of car you want. As they say, you probably couldn't build it for the asking price.
It's very similar to mine and I have >$100k in receipts. To me it's worth every penny. It's been featured in Excellence and scored 123.5 of 125 and Best in Show at a PCA concours. I realize I could drive a GT3RS for the money in my car, but I've owned 993's and 997's and prefer mine.
A well executed older car is a labor of love. Find someone who built their dream car and is now moving on. You'll get a great car for far less than the build cost. You can build a $30K RS clone and a $90K RS clone that look very similar at a glance, but the difference is in the details, and for some of us it's worth it.

Thanks Peter, I agree with your thoughts. I know that will be stepping on the slippery slope, and for those of us who have not stepped there have no idea of the steepness, but I have been talking with some folks about the sort of rough 69 3.2. Let's see, top end rebuild $9k, transmission refresh $6k, paint who knows. Maybe if I get in it for $18k, budget $25k, then I am low$50's with a car I developed. Or just buy the silver one and have fun day one.

Been there done that. I love 993's and if I could justify several p-cars in the garage one would definitely be a 993TT, but there is a feel to driving an early chassis that the newer cars can't touch. You either NEED it or you don't, but if you do none of the newer cars will ever be as satisfying.

Or a decent 997S which would be even faster and more comfy, etc...
