Still not clear on what they're referring to.......plastic body is plastic body,..as you mentioned.

Bottom line,.will I get a direct replacement,..period,..and, new, at that.....

It's just missing the snorkel. You can remove your old one and put in the "new" one. It looks In decent shape but the front side (other side) is the one that goes bad.

Grrrr...... No luck at the shop, unless it's behind 25-30 plastic storage boxes. If you're still in the market next time I go to Petaluma, let me know.
