Default 1981 911 SC

Looking for help figuring out the value of a 1981 911sc that has been sitting for a few yrs. It does run and has 90k miles on it and a new engine. Paint had been redone and is now all flaking off, interior needs redoing and dash is all cracked. No oil leaks. Transmision has a scip in second gear. There is no evidence of rust or ever having an acident. I have been driving by it for about a yr when the owner started leaving it outside under a cover . I stoped to look at it today and he said to make him an offer. . I have restored many cars and would love to take this on but don't want to over pay.

Yeah, even assuming it does run fine (and that's a somewhat risky assumption) going in knowing it needs paint and interior is a good bargaining chip in your favor.

If you want a project and can do much of your own work you may get out lucky so I'd be the last one to actually scare you away but just be aware there's a risk of taking on something that could be cheap or could end up wildly expensive.

I agree with the $4-5k max. There are what sound like slightly less "needy" SCs and Middies around these days in the $7-9k range if he balks.
