Question Water in Vents

After driving through some hard rain and leaving the car out in the rain overnight, I had water spitting out of the dash side vents when driving at highway speeds. Any thoughts on where to look first? Are there drains for the front air intake? Should have mentioned it is a 1987 Carrera.

I almost want to say that's not possible because the heat foot vent would drain water out onto the floor. Yes there is a drain for the fresh air plenum.

You might want to take the ventilation and heat system apart to check for water. If the winshield seal is leaking, then you will have water drip from behind the dash. Could be that's what happened.

The fresh air drain is open although there are signs of corrosion on the clips which hold the plenum together at its lower section. Since I was not running heat, it is unlikely it was coming from the rear ducts.

Perhaps the windshield seal is a possibility since the clovebox was also damp.

Maybe you have a leaky windsheild.

Do you keep up with your drains? The only one I can think of on that vintage is in the bottom of the hash stash, next to the squirrel cage for A/C. If not that, put duct tape over the windshield gasket/rubber and take a hose to the car to attempt to eliminate the rubber windshield seal as your problem. If not water gets in after a good soaking with pressure from a hose, then it will be your windshield seal. Be prepared to find some rust.

I found all the drains to be clear and isolated the windshield in a leak test to further verify the windshield seal as the likely problem. I had the seal replaced and the problem is solved. By the way there was no rust or damage of any kind in the windshield frame.

Thanks for the advise.
