New guy ready to learn (and 964 vs 3.2)

If you can't have some fun with it once in awhile what's the point. I guess my sarcasm did come across clearly.
BTW I am not anti SC/Carrera, I lived and breathed them for several years a long time ago.
I almost recently bought one, and there are some good reason to own one.

I'm a little different than most of the 3.2 guys, but not much. I for one like a 964. I like them a lot really and I could side with race911 in this discussion.
I know both of these cars pretty well; I can talk you into, or out of, either one. It's up to you.

We are not here to sell a 911 or be defensive about our cars .. quite simply we are beyond being dragged into troll -world .. based on how defensive you are I would assume you own a C-4 i really hope yours doesn't break .. if you wanted a C-4 you should have gone for a 993 C-4 . Much simpler and way more relaible .. these are just simple facts . The 964 AWD syatem was overly complex, difficult to diagnose and expensive to maintain.
BTW your comments on the 964 board ....
"They have to make themselves feel good somehow. LOL
Why would you want to work that friggen hard to drive a 911?
Oversteering monster, the shifter is vaguely attacted to something in the rear. It's damn hot in the summer and damn cold in the winter.
They are funny over there in the early 911 board. "
BTW way we are not funny .. just less troll-like ..

You do realize that was in reference to a completely different site. Look at the time stamps.
That was posted 3 hrs before this thread was even hatched.

Whew, a lot of angst for not much good reason...
Carrera: Lighter feel, much simpler, more classic look, more archaic.
964: Faster, more complex, heavier feel, better creature comforts, more advanced supsension.
They are both 911s and darn fine cars. Get a GOOD example of either and you will not go wrong.
Tune out anyone who puts either down.

And Makmov, "hatched" is the perfect verb to describe the reptilian birth of this thread.

Again, sorry to stir the pot here. I really had no idea there was this much rivalry between 911 generations. Anyway, I do have one question about all the HVAC comments on the 3.2. Is the system really that bad? It seems odd that Porsche (of all companies) wouldn't have had air conditioning figured out by the 1980s. Is the system undersized? Compressors prone to failure? Is there a "fix"? I know I'm in Minnesota but it gets well into the 90s here in the summer (with nasty humidity too).

"If you can't have some fun with it once in awhile what's the point"
well, well - something we may agree upon.
it is difficult to learn (or teach) in a vacuum, so...
a) research (as in: search over & over) - a very good point of entry into 911 knowledge is Frere's book - "Porsche 911 Story". I'm to the point of suggesting to people who wanna 911 to read it & report back BEFORE they start listening to anyone - even me.
b) experience - drive 'em, then proceed.
Over the years, I've noted that the more someone REALLY gets into 911s, the more likely they'll end up w/ an older one in the stable. & since time is relative that could be a 993, 964, 911. Sometimes they go crazy & get a 356. it just depends...
here's a lousy example of a Carrera 3.2 to brighten up this thread...
