I found this 85 911 targa over at PP. The car price seems to good to be true.
I just started looking but this one appears to be a great deal, Do I jump on it or keep looking for a newer / better car? Opinions
And if its a deal of the century please dont steal it from me

Does not mention if the valves have ever been adjusted, but this could be a steal.
However, when he says it may need a top end job, he means that it needs a top end job, and it may need more.

It is a tough market for sellers now.
Two of my Neighbor's have been trying to sell their houses since January, neither of them had one showing and are willing to take a loss.
I am thinking about picking up a used Mini Cooper to replace my VW GLI and I found an 05 MCS with 75k for $8,000 and an 04 MCS for $6,500 at dealers.
Earlier this year asking prices for both were around $12k

Has rust, needs a new Targa top and most likely a top end overhaul. That's easily $10 to 15K in repairs which would put the price of ownership above what you could buy a nice one for right now. Price sounds about right.

If there is rust showing, who knows how much there is? A rusty '85 would be a big red flag for me.
I also think the Tagas are worth less than the Targas-lol.

You'll spend more in the long run. Someone on here told me a while ago to spend the money up front getting one in good order. Otherwise, you'll end up spending more getting it in good order.
Ed is right, that rust is a red flag. This one looks like it spent most of the time outside. However, if you have the time and know how it might not be a big deal to you.

I agree, keep looking. But if you can do the work yourself and enjoy that sort of thing then go for it.

I think its worth a good look over.
I bought mine last year at this time for $9k(ish) and I knew going in that it needed a top. The cost of the repair to the top was $1300 and it looks brand new. Mine didn't need top end work so that is a major consideration. I think it's worth a little deeper examination and consideration. It's a good price but not entirely out of line with what I would expect if it needs a bunch of work.
Besides, I large part of the fun of buying is the shopping you get to do along the way. Find the car that speaks to you and don't look back.
