I can relate. I keep buying the heater blower motor replacement from Pelican every two years. I keep thinking that I'm going to rebuild that motor, but when you get it apart it's so worn out that the whole thing is just garbage. I use the engine compartment blower to heag the cab in the winter, and to keep the engine cooler in the summer.

I have a Grainger motor replacement for the blower in the engine compt.
My footwell blowers squealed like banshees till I cleaned and lubed them a few years back. I hope to have heat and defrost again this winter, I'm sure I'll have to do it again. I'm waiting for a missing NLA piece to arrive.

i find my patience for dicking around directly proportional to the cost of the replacement part .. i have actually spent two days taking apart a microswitch and building the worn out plunger up with JB weld .. replacement for the door lock actuator that includes microswitch .. about $225.00 and can't find the exact microswitch i need or a suitable replacement ..

LOL w/dicking around.... I am good at that, sometimes ya just have to bite it though - I had to drive my SUV today so no time for the car... but I figure I will dick with it soon, as long as i know what the problem is I seem to be able to procrastinate too

took the fan out, found a couple "interesting things... RE: the PP write up i am missing a piece of foam on the outside.. I think that causes the fan to contact the body and make a horific sound...
the little "keeper" on the side opposite the squirrel cage end of motor shaft was about to fall off so my fan was "down" and made contact with the outter housing.. It burned the squirrel cage (melted)
So...
I lubed her up and put it together and there are 3 blades that are "free" on the squirrel cage fan.. i wrapped some very small wire around the lip and then laced it thru and soldered it at spots to keep it from coming loose. My thought was the forces make the blades "fly" outwards so this should keep them from going too far... anyone ever sourced a new little fan squirrel cage?
anyhow, full speed, no noise today
That write up is a life saver!!!

Here's a pic of the replacement motor that Pelican sells. It's made in Japan, and of very similar quality to the original. I'd love to get the Grainger one next time to try it.

Seriously? Ed, if no one else takes it, I would LOVE to send you the $$ for shipping. I'd feel almost guilty since mine is currently working, and there might be a person in need.
