Default Finally!... On the hunt again...

Got the book on PPI's
Had a '03 Cab, sold 2009
And now on the hunt for what I should have gotten to begin with; 1987 - 1989 911

So... Looking for standard stuff, lower miles, etc., etc. Like the turbo's but not feeling warm fuzzies about prices or maintenance, etc. So am leaning toward factory Turbo look examples.. Found this one and was curious if anyone here is familar with it..

and this one

+ 1 for that and BTW Ed had referred to me. We both have '86 coupes with the 915 gearbox. The benefits of ultra-low miles are very much evident on these pics: Pristine paint, plastic/vinyl/leather parts on exterior and interior to name a few. However often talked/written about are the problems these cars can have once they start to get driven on a daily basis. In addition to the 35K price these cars are commanding are you game should additional expenses creep up once they are put through the rigors of daily driving. If so then go ahead with the PPI. The biggest difference between the two cars seem to be the gearbox/clutch set-up...but we wont get into that debate.

OK, while I have not been looking at other than 87-89, due to reading I have done on the engine and G50 tran in them, I am open to considering earlier models.

Suggestions on specific years should consider? THANKS!

Both cars look nice. I'm especially fond of widebody coupes although I ended up with a cabriolet.

There is nothing really wrong with the 915 gearbox. The '73-75 RSR race cars used them with great success. I've owned 911's with both transmissions and the shifting feel on the G50 is a huge improvement, IMO, not to mention that it is a stronger box. If you are familiar with this forum or Pelican, you have probably noticed that the guys that sing the praises of the 915 the loudest are the ones who own pre-'87 911's.

With that said, that blue '86 coupe looks great. Buy it and I'll consider swapping cars with you if the G50 is a "must". Mine just turned 33K miles.

other than the shift lever feels like it's attached to a rubber band.

I agree about the 964 American Roadster.

Although I am a coupe guy myself.

Jack,

I love the Coco floor mats in your Cabrio

I like the second choice too but a real 930 is cheaper

I bought an '87, but I drove lots of 915 trans cars and had no problem. If a shifter seems vague, there are always Wevo kits to tighten them up a bit. If you are taller, I think the seat rails were lowered in '85 or '86, giving about an inch more headroom.

I like the blue one - and I love the turbo look - but I settled on a regular Carrera because rear tires in premium brands are becoming so hard to find in the correct size for wide-bodies (245/45/16).

DIGGING the one on Pelican! Mind a few questions (you or anyone else)

1. Anyone know of this car or the seller?

2. Says it is a 5 speed, thought (dont have my Porsche book here at the office) but I thought 5 speeds did not start till 1987?

3. Says in the ad: "This 911 Carrera Super Sport was a special order from the factory as a Euro spec car featuring 24 more horsepower than the US version,"

??? I cannot find a upgrade/option which would increase HP as he states...

THANKS!!

I had two 993s, then a 996tt, then back to a 3.2 Carrera.

The G50 would've been 'frosting' on the cake, but I chose a pristine 2 owner 86 with flawless history and low miles. The 915 box is a classic motoring joy. The rest of the car is so darn good that any shifting recalicitrance hardly matters. Part of the character.
