I paid mid 20s for a one owner, 39k mile, Andial-ized car and I thought I paid a little high. And that was before the economy went south.

I agree with most.. In this economy that is alot of money. I think most cars are going close to about 1/2 of what they are really worth. Look at the early year 996 turbos. If you look around you can find one of those for high 30s. Too me that is an crazy price but that is what you can get for them. I think if you want to sit on it and find the right educated buyer you might get 22,000-23,000. I would not let it go for high teens. I would hold on to it for a couple more years when the economy comes back. I bet you would get 5,000-8,000 more. I see alot of older porsches at my buddies shop and most that were bought in the lower to mid teens are real pieces of crap ( to me).

I haven't checked on my own post in quite some time. To finish the story, I've not sold the car and am not aggressively pursuing a sale. The deal breaker (saver?), my kids told me I shouldn't sell it. Done! (I think they figure they'll get to drive it when the time comes...ha!)

And the market for these has gotten a bit soft. The usual references had put the price in the $25k-$30k range, but as pointed out, that was before the economy hit the tank. I have the time and will finish the few projects I have left. By then, I probably won't care what the market says and hold on to it for the duration...

$25 to 30K maybe for a car that is perfect, or pretty close.

Dings, chips, headliner and cracked dash seem a long way from that status.

Also, a mechanic that says it isn't worth replacing a tensioner oil line to fix a leak makes me wonder what else he's letting go. That is a simple project and not a lot of $ for parts.

The decision to fix/not fix the oil line was driven by the CFO's need to limited further investments in classic automotive restorations. She had (wisely) prioritized other capital projects, including cooking, heating and ventilation systems for the main office. Subsequent review by other mechanics echoed the sentiments of the CFO. This project will be revisited at a future date.

I have been offered 30k for my 1986 911 with 50k miles. Pristine. But I refuse to sell due to finding another one like it. Crazy maybe, but she's been with me 19 years

Bona fide offers are hard to confirm. I've been tangoing with a local fellow here in rural NC. he has a 75 911 coupe - sepia. that hasn't run in 4 years. History is good - the engine was removed, split and rebuilt less than 5k miles ago by Larry Sheldric whom I know to build magnificent motors. Well the thing won't start now and he has enlisted my help to get it running- he knows I am interested in the car. Fuel pressures are all over the map, and a couple of shade-trees have had a go at it. he thinks it's a $5k problem. I kept my mouth shut and just shook my head. He says he has an 18K offer on the table at which point I lose all interest and said TAKE IT. My offer of 4.5K stands. Horse trading is mostly BS. Everything is for sale.

I am sitting on a 42k mile 86 coupe which I may or may not sell but for that price he can have that and some expensive spare parts and wheels including a set of 16x7 and 16x9 Fuchs just refinished professionally. I'll ship it on my dime anywhere in the lower 48. We have had this car since 88 in the family we're the second owners but at that price there are other things I would like.
