'84 911 SC Turbo Fires up but Will Not Idle

Car's been sitting a long time. It's got less than 1000 miles on it.
Fires up but immediately dies almost as if it is an auto shutdown of some sort.
Fuel pump sounds normal and oil pressure indicates immediately.
Any ideas?

The description of '84 + SC + Turbo doesn't really shed much light on what you've really got. I'm going to take a wild stab that it's an earlier-than-'84 car with a 3.0 normally aspirated engine. And from your description, a blown airbox (or massive vacuum leak) is the first thing to look for. But there's no "fix" for a blown airbox, other than replacement.

SC's production stoppen in 1983. Carrera procduction started 1984. The only Turbo's during that time were Gray Market ones requiring DOT approval to get into the US. don't know what kinda of set-up you have. any pictures to give us an idea of what the engine looks like. How do you know it is a Turbo?

Well. Sorry I'm not a porsche nomenclature expert yet.
But, It's an "unmolested" '84 911 SC. That's what the registration says. It's some sort of special euro slant nose model. It most likely is a "gray" situation. It is definitely a turbo with a whale tail if that helps...It's a 3 point something or other 300 hp turbo motor.
Does this clarify?

I wonder if it's a grey mkt turbo? There are so many possibilities as to what the car is, it's not even worth figuring out the problem until it's clarified what exactly type of injection is on the motor.

OK. Come to find out this Euro slantnose 911 turbo is actually a 930. viola!
In the meantime I spoke with Jack at Euromasters and got some good advice about removing the air filter and tweaking the "floater valve" to check for a stuck fueling piston.
Anyone else want to chime in and/or elaborate with words of wisdom?
