Post Wheel choices

Howdy all, Has anyone had any experience with putting 16x7 & 16x8 Fuchs wheels from a 944{23mm offset?} on a 76 911? Will they fit without fender mods, other than a little rolling? B Anderson's book was a little vague, and with the engine mods I need more tire on the road.

Yes, as a rule, the 951 offset allows you an extra inch (a 951 8 acts like a 911 7). The 951 wheels carry a premium price, as a consequence. But I'd check with someone who has your exact rear configuration to be certain that the different offset is going to clear your particular suspension components (spring arms) and how much tire will fit. My guess is that even with a 951 8-inch rim, you won't be able to put more than a 225.

And on top of that, no two of these cars are the same. There are often wide clearance discrepencies between the right and left side.

Thanks for your reply, Jack. It seems that if I add the SC flares my options open up in terms of wheel possibilities. I blew up the 2.7 motor, and replaced it with a 930 one. I am still running stock 76 Fuchs, and they are just not adequate to the job. I was really wanting to maintain stock appearance, as you don't see many nice n-b rockets any more, although I do like the look of the later cars. Thanks again, Dave

Dear Dave,
The 951 wheel offsets are 23,3mm front and 10.6mm rear for model year 1986 only.
The 1983-1986 944s which came with telephone dial wheels standard had an offset of 23.3mm front and rear.
944s and 951s from 1987 model year had wheel offsets of 52.3mm front and rear, same as the later 964s.
I do not know if the 1986 model year of the 951 had an option of Fuchs wheels or not. 1988 and onwards certainly did.
Just be careful with these wheels and check the actual offset on the wheels not the Porsche they came from. you would not be the first person to get caught,
Ciao,
Adrian
