Default 993 oil leak

I have 1996 993 cab w/ 35k. Sorry have not figured out how to include a picture. Recently noticed a small oil leak at the front of the engine case parting line. (towards front to car) If it is the crank seal, any ideas on how much to fix. Also could be the oil sender switch as I believe it is directly above on top of the case??

Thanks for any input

You should post this in the 993 section of this forum. This section is for 911's, the ones that don't have any issues.

Hey kbrewer, we ALL have oil leaks, including the 'normal' 911s. (Mine included.) Those who say they don't are in denial. Or it's just seeping its way in a serpentine fashion under the entire car until it can muster the energy to drip.

Aside from that, yes, do ask the 993 folk as they're doubtless more intimate with the issue. My 993tt dripped at the turbo housing and THAT was a significant no-no of galactic proportions. Yours sounds less horrific IF the sender, but the crank seal is - I believe - a partial engine pull. Gulp. Hope I'm wrong. (Wouldn't be the first time today, or even this hour!)

Best wishes.

Adams, your going to get a reply from some guys in "denial". Ed's car does not leak. But I agree with you, most have a drip or two.
The 993 forum is a good place to start kbrewer, thats the forum for 911s that have AC (that works)LOL.

I worked especially hard to not leak.

It's only a month old, please allow me the honeymoon!

I think materials have come a long way. I have seen good rebuilds go many many thousands of miles and years (on the track) without a single drop. It's not uncommon.
Honeymoon, hell, your on borrowed time with those Carrera valve guides and carpet-bomb 915.

No, but there's a primary air injection pump/EGR on any US car from '77-'83, right? And CA cars in '76, maybe '75. But the '75s are smog exempt now. (And for those 2.7L cars, how about we talk thermal reactors?)

Ha. Anybody ever try to program the key-remote for a 993?

'Twas jesting on the denial part since all who leak feel the non-leakers MUST be hiding it. My car didn't leak until I cleaned it underneath (not kidding) and only now not enough to classify as anything other than a 'drip' per day. No worries.

Shocker of the day: My air blows ice cold.

Huge relief reading this thread. Just bought a 993, noticed in garage that there is a 'once a day' oil spot on the garage floor from somewhere forward of the engine along the centerline of the car.

I plan to fix it by putting some cardboard down.

My air also blows ice cold! Didn't realize it wasn't supposed to, I will take it to my mechanics and have them fix it immediately.

It may feel "cold" now but tell us how it feels in August at noon in a dress shirt and tie in downtown traffic.

FWIW, none of my 911's leaked. Not the 71, the 72, the 85, or any of the three 88's.
