Targa bar refinishing
I recently bought an '87 targa that is totally stock and a very honest car. I bought it because my son was born in '87 and the first pic I have of him is me holding him with my wife next to me, leaning on our then'84 targa. My intention is to "refresh" the car, enjoy it for a year and give it to my son as a 25th birthday present (he's grown up a P-car nut).
Among the many small tasks to be undertaken is bringing the targa bar up to snuff. it's dull and scuffed (see pic below). Has any one here done this before and, if so, I'd really appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks, in advance,
Les

I think normal paint prep techniques would apply, and typically, Wurth Satin Black paint is the match for trim. Targa bar trim is not glossy, and it is not matte, the Satin seems to be that semi-gloss look. Yours does look pretty dull, and if it is scuffed, you have nothing to lose. You can always take it to a pro if you don't like the outcome.
There are the two nuts under each fender well which are what holds it on, and I'd remove it for this work. I'd go with some penetrant for a couple of days prior to removal, as it won't take much to snap a stud off if the nut doesn't want to budge.

yeah this is NOT a rush project ... work in the penetrant with a tooh brush, then spray again . repeat, repeat , repeat, until you run out of penetrant and patience..
