Cabro, Coupe, or Targa?
In my quest to find the perfect air cooled P-Car I am still wrestling with what vehicle config to go with:
-Cabro
-Targa
-Coupe
I live in South OC Cal so it only rains for 30 minutes a year.
If you had to do it all over again which car would you buy?????
Thanks.
Lakers over the C tonight with a 2-1 lead!!!!

Coupe: No other form brings out the classic 911 silhouette as much as the coupe. Less chances of rattling, sqeaks etc. if you are going to use the car for track days, park outside at work everyday exposing it to the elements a coupe is more desirable.
Cabrio: One should own a cabrio atleast once in their lifetime..period. A well cared for convertible top will hold up well for several years, otherwise you are looking at poor seal, degradation of the stitching, rattles/squeaks. Get one that is well maintained, you will be surprised how good these roofs can be and body flex is very minimal.
Targa: Your only chance of owning a piece of history. A novel innovation that defined that generation of 911's. Best of both worlds (as secure as a coupe, and with better rollover protection. The biggest issue with the convertible is the wind effect for the rear passengers (kids in a case of a 911). In a targa, the big glass rear screen offers wind protection. Cons may be a little more wind noise with the roof in place and leaks are problematic if the targa roof is poorly maintained.
I SAY GET THE 911 THAT IS MOST CLOSE TO IT'S ORIGINAL FORM (WITH THE LEAST MODS), BEST SERVICE HISTORY AND A FAVORABLE PPI. DON'T PUT TOO MUCH THOUGHT INTO COLOR, STYLE AND OPTIONS IN A 25 YR OLD CAR. I KNOW, A BEAUTIFUL RED CABRIO IS SURE ATTRACTIVE TO LOOK AT IN A 911 COFFEE TABLE BOOK BUT GET ONE THAT IS NOT A WELL-CARED FOR, YOU WILL REGRET IT FOREVER ESPECIALLY, ONCE THE WALLET STARTS BLEEDING DOLLARS.
To answer your question: If I where to do it all over again, I would love to have a targa...my wife and kids absolutely love it. I have a '86 Carrera 3.2 coupe now.

I've had all three - I think if I lived in so cal it would have to be a cabriolet or a targa. Something about the top down flat six melody with the wind in your hair...

Just remember if you by a cab that you MUST put the boot on when the top is down. Failure to do so will result in torn headliners from wind buffeting. I have owned all three. Coupe's are more rigid, Targa's less so and cab's even less, but they are all fun no matter what.

I agree with Whalebird. I have a coupe, but one look at Ed Hughes's Ruby and you may want to get a targa.
I'd also consider a Speedster, living in So Cal, but the prices have to get back down to something more reasonable.

+1 sunroof delete coupe. I've had a Targa and it was a lot of fun to drive with the top off in the Spring and Fall. Top On-not so much fun. Could have been from a poorly fitted top but mine was windy and leaked every time I washed it.

I always (for 20+ years anyway) dreamed of owning a 911 so when the opportunity presented itself to get one I faced the same question you have now. Which form to get?
I went with the cab because it was never going to be a daily driver and I love the feeling of openness on a nice day with the sun on my face. I used to ride motorcycles and loved that feeling as well but I'm a little too old now with too many responsibilities to run the risk of sharing the road with all those idiot drivers out there. The cab protects me from them and is the best all around compromise.
Having said that I wish I could afford 2. I'd get a coupe for sure as it is by far the most beautiful of the 3 models (and one of the most beautiful cars of all time IMO). In addition I think it would be the way to go if you have any aspirations to track it.

i like the exterior lines of the coupe for sure .. but as Marc says there is nothing like having the roof out of your Targa , or your top down of your cab ...
