Wevo/G-50 Review

There is no doubt about that. Most everyone this has happened to, always thought-"not me". Just about every club racer I've met, who has been at it long enough seems to have experienced it-seems to be independent of car condition and skill. Stuff happens. But, there are goodies we can buy that offer up some insurance against catastrophe.

I was sold on the upgrade after talking to a few folks and hearing them talk about it being one of the best driving upgrades you can make to a 911. I'm not worried about a money shift because I don't track my car - yet. Anyway, I got a little bonus at work, the car was going in the shop to have the valves adjusted, so I went ahead and ordered the shifter. There you go.

1stgear - thanks for the review. I was waiting to hear your feedback.
My G-50 is very clunky when shifting from first to second when cold and also when shifting at a high rpm.
Others have suggested I replace the bushings at the shifter and the coupler first and see how that goes. Even though the Wevo looks great and I love the idea of one, for the money I'll start with the bushings first.
Did the Wevo shorten the throw at all?

Some of the missed-shifts I can count on hands and feet were in G-50's...
But, you can plug "915" into your last sentence, and that would apply to even more opinions. Heck, apply it to your first paragraph and it fits. The 915 is a fine g-box. So is the G50. Either can be pulled into 2nd or 3rd at the wrong time, under the right circumstances.

For me personally- I vastly prefer the G50- I know others have different opinions- But a good G50 is very, very precise. I have not tracked this particular car so i cannot say from personal experience, but a worn G50 is very notchy and I can imagine missing shifts quite easily - even on the road.
Before I purchased the car I own now I test drove an 87 3.2 with some sort of short shift kit and I found it almost unusable- very stiff gear lever- super notchy- way too much pressure needed to slam it in to each gear- but once warm the shift action was very short. When i got into the car I own now the lever was like perfectly damped butter- and just enough of a notch to know which gear you were in- so different form the other G50's i had driven. (Including several "rebuilt" boxes)

^^ I think that is a great description of what goes on when a short shift is installed. The added force needed in gear selection can haste the end of an older gearbox.

me being a newbie to the sc i just pursched, and going from a 944, driving these cars are totaly different, i drove sereral 1980's models, the 1983 carrera i drove had a shortshift, it was awful, thought i was doing something wrong, i told the owner this doesn't feel right, he said the linkage needed adjustment, probably so, but i have heard pros and cons on the short shift, my mech said don't put one in, i ended up buying a 1982 sc with low milage, shifted totally different than the one with the short shift(better

Other than the Seine, and Wevo, any other descent options?
For me the Wevo is out of my budget and the Seine is kind of funny and might require cutting some stock parts for interferance - not sure I like that idea

Rennshift is a great product. I'm not sure what you'd have to cut if you have a leather boot, with the Seine.
