Post I think I'm beginning to understand

Its been two days now since I bought my '79 911 Targa. Even though the car is older and a tad bit rough I've never had so many people looking at a vehicle, asking about it and so forth. Tonight I had one guy strike up a conversation at the auto parts store and there were two girls looking at it when I came out of the grocery store. In the last couple days I must have had a half dozen people or more talk to me about it.

My Hayabusa is the worlds fastest production motorcycle but it doesn't get anywhere the attention this old Porsche does.

Is this part of the mystique?

Yep, Most people know about a Porsche "The Mystique". Not to many people know that you have the fastest bike. Just a bike to most. It will get old and be worth very little. A Porsche, you bought a 79'. Would you buy a 79' bike? LOL. Remember the V-Max? Fast bike. Even a Harley was not good in the 70's.
Enjoy and have fun in/on both.

I think the looks are a part of it but also the driving experience. People will argue all day long about the performance and engineering of the 911, but one thing is for sure - the design allows you to become better with the car every time you drive it and few will ever master it to the point that they stop improving. I doubt there are many other production cars like that. Every time I drive my 911 I find a little something new that I can do better or learn a little more about the nature of the car.

Welcome to the club.

I owned an 87 951 before my Carrera. The waterpumper accelerated faster, slowed harder, and cornered quicker, but no one knew what it was.

After owning my 911 for 6 months, I can say that I now understand why people tint their windows - everyone from 13 year old children to 75 year old grandparents stares at you.

In addition to the attention that the car brings, the driving experience is second to none. When I turn the key in any other car, Im simpye starting the engine and going where I want to be.

When I turn the key in the 911, its an experience everytime. The car never ceases to amaze me because nothing else feels quite like it.

It may not be the fastest or the most capable, but damn is it fun.
