Removing the Catalytic Converter
Today I received my new Cat. Went to my shop and started removing the old Cat. No one of the 9 bolts would break loose. 5 Broke from the pressure and 4 I had to grind them off.
I did pre-spray them with PB Blaster a week ago and again tonight. I presume muffler shops just use a torch but I don't have one.
Well it is off and according to what I have read if the CAT is good you should be able to see some light if you shine a bright flashlight in one end. I think you could look directly at the sun with this CAT and not see light. Pretty solid in there.
Didn't have the correct bolts tonight to install but I will get it this week.
Question, I have a new O2 sensor, I presume I should just replace it as I don't know the status of the old one. Is that SOP?

yup
if your O2 sensor is bad you could end up dumping fuel into your cat destroyong it prematurely .. BTW i have an impact gun and all mine snapped off immediately , when it comes to exhaust that is the best possble results ( well for the bolts anyway .. studs, not so much .. )

I don't think anyone re-uses frozen bolts unless they are in really good shape. I used copper anti-seize on mine and it seems to help.
I broke my frozen ones in two with a flex head ratchet and good socket.

Got the new CAT on tonight along with the new O2 Sensor but it was raining so I didn't drive it. The OXY light do not come on so I guess I don't need to reset.
When I was plugging the O2 Sensor in I notice that the thing it plugs into is partially broken. What is that part or part number and is it easily replaced?
Thanks,
Rob

yeah that has come up before on pelican. Some guy I think fabricated a connector and was selling them cheap . I am not sure what you would search on though. I don't have an o2 sensor but i have heard it is a funky white plastic comnnector or something.

I ended up replacing the round plug with spade connectors on mine.
I torched my bolts off, they weren't budging. PB Blaster was/is useless on exhaust fasteners usually, IMO.
"Heat, there is no substitute."

exhaust is a waste of good PB blaster in my opinion ,, why spend 10.00 of PB blaster on 2.00 worth of bolts your replacing anyway .. snap em off, impact gun or blue wrench , it's all good ..

I was able to snap of 3 of the 9 bolts. I couldn't get my impact wrench on the rest. I tried breaking them with a socket but they were so rusted that most of time the socket or wrench slipped off. Finally ended up grinding several off. Used a cold chisel on two.
Only smacked my hand when wrench slipped one time. Thought I might have broken something but the pain is starting to subside.
Need to figure out what the part is that the o2 sensor plugs into.

Good job on the exhaust .. I usually try to do that in winter at -20C and it is so cold i can't hold me tools .. that way when i slip and gash my hand open i know I have a few more minutes of work before my hand thaws out and starts to hurt like hell..
