New 911SC owner
After looking for a used 911 for three months, and test driving 964's, 3.2's, SC's, 996's (meh), and even a couple of 997's (very nice, especially the Carrera S), I decided to purchase a used SC. So now that I'm officially a P-car owner, I thought I'd share the news with folks on this great forum.
The car in question is a silver '83 with 112k miles. PPI showed good compression and leakdown numbers (within 5-7%), a few small oil leaks here and there, brakes around 50%, and a weak 1st gear syncro. Chain tensioners have been updated to hydraulic, and pop-off valve has been added. All pretty normal stuff from what I've gathered.
The interior is a little beat, and the paint is a respray. But the mechanics are solid and the price was great. Although I initially was set on purchasing a 964, the SC won me over because it proved to be such a bargain for the price...about half of what I was prepared to spend. So I have some $$ left over to invest in new interior and paint if I choose to do it.
And, while I don't want to judge anyone's taste, I just felt like a total douche bag driving around in a 996. Sorry, no offense to anyone.
So...any advice? Threads I should check out? Things I should watch out for? The car is getting shipped, and will be here Monday. I would have loved to have flown in and driven it home, but my wife and I have a 6 month old baby so our hands are pretty full right now.

Congratulations. I'd just start on the important stuff=making sure brakes and tires are good and safe. Then, evaluate suspension and misc systems. Peruse around here, you'll see some topics come up that you'll find interest in. Of course, pics are a must.

Take your time with mods, and as Ed says start with safety first. If you don't have a Bentley manual, that's probably a logical first step. You can save even more money by asking a lot of questions on the Porsche forums.

Hey Featherpillow,
Congrats on your two new babies. I'm rather new to Rennlist myself. The search button is a great tool!
I use it often as I look for threads regarding the 911 SC and upgrades. Another good source is a book called "101 Projects For Your Porsche". You might want to join the Porsche Club Of America. I would imagine the Chicago area is a pretty active region. Once you have a membership number, many parts houses like Performance Products will sell you parts and Porsche stuff at a 10-20% discount. My SC is not my daily driver so its insured with Hagerty. Cost me $121/yr. Your rate is based on the agreed value of your car and the amount of miles you intend to drive it. Just my $02. Again congrats and welcome!

Thanks for the suggestions!
One general question for everyone...how do I enable a signature? Is that reserved for paid memberships?

Wow, I thought I was getting a good deal @ $30/mo through State Farm. Mine won't be a DD either, and it probably won't stay in Chicago. I was planning on sending it to live at our winter home in Sarasota Florida. We'll see how that goes, though . I have to enjoy it for awhile now that the weather in Chicago is getting warmer.
Thanks for the suggestions!
