Default Heads Up on Wheel Availability (Fuchs)

Just a quick heads up that Fuchs Racing in the USA is currently in preproduction on the classic Fuchs drop forged, single piece, windmill wheels with a variety of diameters, widths, offsets, and center colors. Expect to see something definitive on their website soon. FuchsRacing.com

They will be making them the old fashioned way--drop forged (not friction welded) from billet aluminum, with CNC machining for the final look. They will be powdercoating the centers in a variety of colors.

They are similar in appearance to the new Sport Classic 911 wheels that Porsche recently introduced on their 911 Sport Classic limited edition cars, except the Fuchs ones will be forged, instead of pressure cast as the Sport Classics are.

They will also be catering to the early long nose 911 owners who need a newer wheel (instead of one with 40 years beneath their belts).

Here's a notional look of the Sport Classics on my car to give you a little idea of what is going to be available.

That is pretty cool. I imagine that these are going to be a bit pricey, but even still there is no better looking wheel for our P-cars, IMHO.

Thanks for sharing this information.

This is terrific news, because 15 and 16-inch tire sizes are disappearing.
Several aftermarket vendors supply larger sizes, but it's nice to have Fuchs re-enter the arena.

Gotta start saving my pennies.

No, mine are indeed forged, but they are 3 pc with blind fasteners. My guess is they were probably 1/3 to 1/2 of what Fuchs will charge.

I also like the fact that mine are 3 piece as they are more apt to be repairable in the event of a big boo-boo.

I had no problem beside writing a big check 2 months ago for real 7 and 8 x 16 FUCHS from Sunset porsche in oregon or could have used Stoddards. Why get fakes or US made Fuchs (also fakes) when you can get real one, unless you really want/need 17/18/19 inch.

That is the point; I wanted 17's (7.5/9") and I wanted forged. They were not cheap by any means, and they aren't the gravity cast versions that are also available.

My need was based on clearing my large calipers and rotors and wanting more tire choices.

cast Fuchs are junk. They may serve a purpose for the aircooled VW gang, but not a real 911. I know they are used as budget replacements for a Porsche, but if I spot them on a car - it's a signal to run.
I like the forged reproductions as long as they meet the originals quality - some may even exceed the originals. Fuchs are sacred ground for me and the cars they came on. It's part of the unique 911 experiance.

^ truer words not spoken here.

I paid way too much for the priveledge to buy 9" original Fuchs. But they are worth every penny. It's like asking a woman if she would prefer a real Louis V purse or a knockoff.

Bogus California Fuchs wheels seem absurd to me.

Define what those are. Short statements such as this only add to post count.

This is off-topic but can someone tell me if Jeff Alton's Fuchs are cast or forged?

Not planning a wheel purchase soon, just want to know what's good and what's not.

Jeff's are high quality forged. This might be OT or maybe not, but I think a short summary of all comparible wheels and a few short notes about them might be a good discussion.

Thanks, rusnak. 16" tires are disappearing fast, especially in Turbo sizes...the 245/45 rears are killers.

17s are likely in my future at some point.
