Default Stranded on side of road think it's a fuel pump

Help. I'm stuck on the side of the road. It appears to be the fuel pump. I can hear it when I turn the key on.

Where is the pump. I don't know where it is and all I have for a light is my iPhone

Default Fuel Pump

I guess it is probably light there now.

The location of the fuel pump probably depends on which Porsche you have.

Not quite light yet. I have an 87 911. I found an article on pelican parts.

I was on my way to the track for a DE weekend so I have everything with me I need to fix it except a fuel pump

More likely the fuel pump fuse holder.

the fuel pump is located between the metal sandwich plate in the front suspension area, aprox where your pedal box would be topside.

Did you check the red relay? Happened to me on my first 79 SC. Have carried that little red relay ever since.

he has a Carrera so if he has already tried the DME relay , it could be the pump . but you still have to start with the basics , do you have spark etc. is head temp sensor working and connected.

You should only hear the fuel pump when you crank the starter. If you can get to the front cross-member, the fuel pump is bolted to it. Tap on the fuel pump hard with a plastic screwdriver handle while the engine is cranking over. That might get it to turn. Kragen Auto has the correct fuel pump. I had to help out a stranded 911 owner with one.

I have a mental image of Goodwin under the 911, stretching to tap on the fuel pump now. I feel so bad.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a bullet fuse that powers the fuel pump. One of the 15 amp ones I think. I should have mentioned this first.

So it could have been worse. I had it towed back to the house. I jacked it up and climbed under and got to the pump.

I put a voltmeter on the contacts and the pump started purring like a kitten. Tightened the nut and drove to the track and got the last two runs of the day.
