Nowadays, I seem to calculate the "high per mile"....(impossible,...not really quantifiable)...

Yet, this thread will spark this engineer to "run the numbers",..for the helluvit.

Best,

Doyle

Not counting fuel, tires or insurance mine is over .30 per mile. So far there have not been any big items. No major motor or transmission work just switches, brakes, horn......

Anybody else do the math.
My client has a couple of Porsches that he has kept that sort of data.

A 1980 928, and 64 356.

As an economist, he kept serious records. He drove them very little. His numbers are like this:

1980 928:

$3.06 / mile
$1.00 / mile
$1.28 / mile
$0.44 / mile
$0.28 / mile
$0.73 / mile
$0.98 / mile
$0.81 / mile
$1.90 / mile
$26.00 / mile
$1.60 / mile
$4.32 / mile
$2.80 / mile

These numbers reflect licensing, insurance, gas, oil, and maintenance (parts, serivce). It's a fully comprehensive number.

Nothing good will ever come from adding up receipts.

I concur! Throw them in a file or a box in some cases, and never look at them.

Besides, you can always tell yourself that any serious study of the cost per mile would include the terminal cash flow from the sale of the car. That probably would adjust the numbers quite a bit, so why sweat it?
