Default Maintenance cost per mile....

Has anyone else looked at their cost per mile for maintenance.

Not counting fuel, tires or insurance mine is over .30 per mile. So far there have not been any big items. No major motor or transmission work just switches, brakes, horn......

Anybody else do the math.

$0.77/mi.
Possible reason: higher initial outlay for some overdue maintenance after purchase, and higher costs owed to wrench labor.

I now feel a lot more comfortable doing things myself, so I expect to have the number drop as I do more myself and buy fewer parts (hey - it's a theory).

I don't normally keep track, but I had the mileage and the mat'l costs, so I just did the ratio.

I feel a little better.

I don't have any track time or street racing. Just Sunday drives and autocross. About 3k miles a year.

revised above - I flipped the numbers.
Still, it has turned out to be an incentive to drive more - but now I want to do the suspension.

Yeah, maintenance on mine is minimal. It's the extracurricular stuff that adds up.

The more you drive them the better they run, and the cheaper it runs out.

I put it on axle stands last night to change all the super Blue brake fluid put fresh swepco 201 in it , do a general inspection and clean the grease film around the CV joints, so it will cost a few bucks .... din't need to but i love this stuff and it is raining today anyway ..

No one is worrying here - info was at my fingertips.
Someone may want the maintenance records I kept during the resto, just as I appreciated the ones handed me.
Dividing by the mileage I put on was straight math.
I suppose if one did a top-end recently, the number would certainly be skewed (like mine might be with the extras).
So much for keeping on topic.

Boys boys,

I don't care if you spend your money on Porsche parts or crack. With some it may be a sensitive subject.

I was thinking my .30+ cents per mile was kind of high. After this post and talking to the PCA guys it looks like my car is on the thrifty side.

I know most everyone keeps track of their maintenance records and can to the math. It looks like we have to pay a premium to drive a classic.
